Autonomous Region of Bougainville Universal Basic Education in 2019
The Autonomous Region of Bougainville comprises three districts: North Bougainville, Central Bougainville and South Bougainville and 11 LLGs. The province’s population in 2011 was 249,358 with a growth rate of 3.2% from 2000. The province accounted for 3.4% of PNG’s total population. The 2011 census showed North Bougainville to be the most populated district (44%), followed by South Bougainville (33%) and Central Bougainville (24%).
Access to service facilities in some communities was difficult mostly due to the lack of the enabling infrastructure such as road networks. Inland communities were unlikely to access services easily due to the deteriorating condition and absence of such fundamental preconditions.
The province has 420 elementary and 234 primary schools.
