Dr. Osborne Sanida is the Director of the Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNG NRI). He also provides oversight for the PNG APEC Studies Centre, which is based at the PNG NRI. Dr. Sanida has extensive research and management experience with PNG NRI (his only employer), starting in 1996.
Prior to his current position, he has held the following positions with the Institute: Deputy Director (Corporate); Program Leader and Senior Research Fellow, Economic Policy Research Program; and Research Fellow, Senior Research Officer, Research Officer, and Project Research Officer, with the then Economic Studies Division.
His research interests and contributions are in the areas of economic modelling; development economics; time series econometrics; development planning; international trade; foreign direct investment; and economic policy analysis.
Besides his contributions to research and management, Dr. Sanida contributes to public policy analysis and advice in PNG, via: memberships of various Government Committees; lecturing in the NRI’s popular annual Economic Policy Analysis Course (EPAC); and making public commentaries on topical economic/public policy issues.
Dr. Sanida holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Economics from the University of Queensland (Australia); a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from Monash University (Australia); and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).
