Dr KavanDr. Philip Kavan is a Senior Research Fellow with the Economic Policy Research Program at Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNG NRI).

He has a Doctor of Business Administration degree from the University of Canberra, a Master of Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development from the Australian National University (ANU), Bachelor of Arts Honours, and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Major in Anthropology and Sociology) from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).

Dr. Kavan has tutored at the University of Canberra after completing his doctoral program for seven (7) years at the Faculty of Business, Government, and Law. He has extensive experience in consultancy work in the area of social impact assessment studies.

Before joining PNG NRI, he was a freelance consultant. He worked as a consultant to PNG NRI on various projects under the Economic Policy Research Program and as a short-term consultant to World Bank.
His research interests include informal economic activities, and social and economic issues in development.
